Live Free or Die

General John Stark (1728 - 1822) - American Soldier

Major General in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He was known as the hero of the Battle of Bennington and also as the author of the motto of the State of New Hampshire “Live free or die: death is not the worst of evils.”
