Portrait of Chief Joseph (1840 - 1904) - Native American

Leader of the Walowa band of Nez Perce tribe in the Pacific Northwest. Known as a skilled military leader as well as a humanitarian and peacemaker. Under his leadership the Nez Perce earned widespread admiration from their opponents and the American public.
